Abdülhamid II ordered the construction of clock towers at various points of the territory within the borders of the Ottoman Empire in honor of the 25th anniversary of his ascension to the throne. The Izmir clock tower from 1901 to the present day is one of these structures.


The Izmir clock tower, which was built by the French-born Izmir architect R. Charles Pere, is 25 meters high and has an octagonal structure with unique columns and arches.

The clock on the tower was a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II to the Ottoman Emperor Abdulhamid II. The clock on the tower is still working today.
